Age 88 of Elmira, NY died peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2017. Abe’s last days were full of love and family. He was born in Elmira, on April 2, 1929 to the late Philip & Ida (Siskin) Golos. Abe is survived by his loving wife, Loda Golos of Elmira; daughters, Cindy Golos of Virginia; Anita Mayer of Elmira; son and daughter-in-law, Marc & Sharon Greenberg of Ohio; grandchildren, Joel & April Greenberg, Aaron & Breanne Greenberg, Rachel Greenberg, Geoff & Rena Terwilliger, and Ryan Mayer; great grandchildren, Malakai Greenberg, Phoebe Greenberg, Zoe Greenberg, and Dexter & Miasia Hayes; brother, Ellery Golos of MN. Abe was predeceased by sisters, Natalie Golos and Frances Goldbitz. Abe was an Attorney at Law with Etkind & Golos for many years. Abe was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1954-1956. He received his undergraduate from the University of Rochester and his law degree from the University of Michigan. Well-known and loved in this community, Abe was a lifelong resident of Elmira, and a selfless leader and congregant of Congregation Kol Ami, formerly Shomray Hadath. His love of Jewish life and learning culminated in his appointment as spiritual leader of the Synagogue at age 80. He served in this role for eight years, retiring at age 87. He was ordained as a Rabbi this year, in honor of his years of service. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD IN CONGREGATION KOL AMI 1008 W.WATER STREET ELMIRA, ON SUNDAY, MAY 7, 2017 AT 2:00PM.
