DR. PAUL I. SHORE
Age 83 died peacefully at home in his sleep on Saturday, January 19th, 2019 after battling for the past five years with Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his adored wife, Phyllis, of 62 years and his three daughters, Marla, Karyn, and Johanna, as well as six grandchildren. Born in the Bronx, New York, Paul graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, followed by NYU and the NYU School of Dentistry (1957). He achieved the rank of Captain in the US Air Force, after which he returned to New York City for a brief time before moving his family to Elmira in 1965 where he opened his dental practice on Water Street over 50 years ago. He later added a second location in Watkins Glen, retiring from practice 10 years ago.
Paul was very involved in the community: he acted in Elmira Little Theater, was a long-time member of Rotary International, served as President of Temple B’Nai Israel, served as delegate and President to the Southern Tier Dental Society, was an active member of the American Dental Association, and traveled to Japan representing the ADA to teach the latest dental practices.
Paul met many people through his avid love of duplicate bridge, in which he was a Life Master. He had a wry sense of humor, and many will remember the twinkle in his eye as he delivered a punchline. He was an enthusiastic skier, expert crossword puzzler, and a self-taught chef of Chinese cuisine. Paul was always unbelievably generous. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
