On June 22, 2018 Peter J. Trifoso, Sr. passed away at the age 92 surrounded by his loving family. His beloved and caring wife, Antoinette passed away in 2009 after 63 years of marriage. Pete was the definition of an All American, born on July 4, 1925. He served during WWII where he was a Navy 2nd class, serving aboard the U.S.S. Mt. Mckinley. Pete served in the Pacific in 5 major battles with 4 of his brothers, earning him 5 battle stars for his dedication to the war effort and his country. In addition to working for the US Post Office, he was the owner of many well-known establishments in the Elmira/Horseheads area: Sam’s,(with all his brothers) Pete’s Tavern, PJ’s, Trifoso’s and Pete’s Sports Club. He was an outstanding athlete culminating in being inducted into the Elmira Sports Hall of Fame in 1979. Pete and Ann were avid socializers and enjoyed memberships to the American Legion, Horseheads Elks, VFW, CWV, Italian American Veterans Club (IAV) and the Moose Club. He was also a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church for many years. He was predeceased by his brothers, Samuel Trifoso & Anthony Trifoso. Pete is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Darlene & Steve Zielinski of Corning, NY; sons and daughters-in-laws, John & Joanne Trifoso of Novato, CA, Peter & Vena Trifoso of Lutz, FL; grandchildren, Leigh Zielinski of Corning, NY, Michael & Merideth Zielinski of Ft. Collins, CO, CeCe Trifoso of Novato, CA, Melinda & Scott Carson of Tampa, FL; great grandchild, Jackson Carson of Tampa, FL; brothers, Charles Trifoso, Frank Trifoso, Bernard Trifoso; sisters, Bertha Parella, Patricia O’Brien, Mary Cox, and Vera Brown.  FRIENDS MAY CALL AT ST. PATRICK'S CHURCH 604 PARK PLACE ELMIRA, ON SATURDAY, JUNE 30TH 2018 FROM 8:30AM-9:30AM. PETE’S MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL WILL FOLLOW AT 9:30AM.  REVEREND SCOTT KUBINSKI CELEBRANT. INTERMENT WITH FULL MILITARY HONORS WILL FOLLOW IN ST. MARY OUR MOTHER CEMETERY, HORSEHEADS, NY.  The Trifoso Family would like to extend their gratitude & appreciation to the fabulous staff at Elcor Nursing Facility for their deep compassion & care. Also to the staff of the TCU @ St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bethany Assisted Living & CareFirst for their kindness & compassion.
