Fay Cohen (Margolis) of Elmira NY died peacefully on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 in Pompano Beach, Fl. She was born in Utica NY on Sunday, November 19, 1922, daughter of the late Sylvia (Marans) and Ruben Margolis. She shared 50 years of marriage with her late husband, Milton A. Cohen. Loving mother of Lawrence Cohen and wife Kathleen of Elmira NY, Jeffrey Cohen and wife Wendy and cherished Grandmother to Joshua, Marisa and Evan Cohen of Newton MA. Also survived by brothers, Art Margolis and partner Judy and Herb Margolis and wife Anita of Boca Raton, FL. Fay also leaves behind many loving nieces, Barbara Margolis (Colleen), Lauren Wilson, and Valerie Tyneski (Frank) and nephew Jordan Taylor. Fay attended Ohio State University before leaving at the start of WWII and went back to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1967 from Elmira College while raising her sons. She worked as a substitute teacher in the Elmira City School District and for the Chemung County Board of Elections. Fay was a Bridge Club Master, an avid golfer, and a voracious reader. She was also a past President of Sisterhood at Temple B’Nai Israel and a member of Congregation Kol Ami and the Elmira Country Club. She played the piano, enjoyed dancing and doing crossword puzzles in ink. Her home was full of fashion, glamour, good ethics and great food. Fay spent summers on Seneca and Keuka Lake, traveled throughout the United States and Europe and in her later years, split her time between Elmira NY and Pompano Beach FL. Her family is grateful to Mavis Little, caregiver, friend Mel Ellen, the staff at The Court of Palmaire and Hospice Services. Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 11:30am in Temple B’Nai Israel Cemetery, Elmira. Rabbi Dr. Oren Steinitz officiating.
