SANDRA M. PAUTZ “Sandy” Elmira, NY- Age 82, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She was born in Elmira to Sanford S. and Blanche D. (Frost) VanHouten. Sandy was predeceased by her parents; and husband of 48 years, Raymond C. Pautz. Survived by daughters, Caroline E. Pautz (Max Samuels) and Rebecca A. Pautz, all of Elmira; grandchildren, Andrew E. Fife, III and Garrett R. Fife, both of Elmira; also survived by Chris Bockus. Sandy’s career in teaching spanned over 38 years. She received dual Master’s degrees’ in Elementary Education and Special Education. Sandy retired from Corning-Painted Post School District in 1998 and then devoted most of her time to her grandchildren. She also developed a passion for genealogy and discovered how her ancestors helped to form American history. Throughout her lifetime, she was involved in numerous organizations and philanthropic endeavors. She was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy (1957) then attended The University of Buffalo, Castleton College, VT, and finishing her education at Elmira College and Mansfield University. She was a member of Eastern Star, The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Mayflower Society, The Faithful 20, and the Red Hats. Sandra’s family had a long-time affiliation with Trinity Episcopal Church. She was also involved with multiple antique car associations: East Grand Packards; Niagara Packard Club; Packard Club of America; Motor City Packards; Alleghany Packards; Twin Tier Vintage Car Club; The Buick Club; The Oldsmobile Club of American; the Finger Lakes Final 500 Oldsmobile; Chemung Valley Region AACA, and was the first female president of this Chapter. She was also involved in the Chemung County Historical Society and the Vermont Historical Society. Sandy was a bright and vibrant soul. She was a mother and a mentor not only to her own children, but to her students and all of her children’s friends. She took care of everyone around her and gave her time and compassion to anyone in need. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society. Due to Covid concerns, a Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. A private graveside service of Sandy’s ashes will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
